About
the Magnetic Scrolls Chronicles
What
are the Magnetic Scrolls Chronicles?
The Magnetic Scrolls webpages are a tribute to legendary british
text adventure games company Magnetic Scrolls, the people behind
it, and the games they created. It is meant to be a museum and
a nostalgic salute dedicated to everything Magnetic Scrolls.
Why
create these pages?
In my (pretty long and extensive) computer gaming history I
have had two love affairs that have lasted until today. One
were U.S. based computer games developers "Interplay"
and their early games like "The Bard's Tale" series,
"Tass Times in Tone Town" or "Borrowed Time".
Much later I was able to "live the dream", so to speak,
as I've had the pleasure to work for "Interplay"'s
"Black Isle Studios" division a couple of years ago.
The other great love was Magnetic Scrolls and their magnificent
games. Especially the games created by the people at Magnetic
Scrolls have had a huge impact on me, an impact that has lasted
until today, so I decided to create the small, private tribute
page you are exploring at the moment. That was the least I could
do for the people who brought so much joy into my life by creating
these amazing games. I hope the site I created is in their spirit.
What
purpose do the Magnetic Scrolls Chronicles have?
The Magnetic Scrolls Chronicles exist purely because of nostalgic
reasons and are strictly a labour of love. I was (and still
am) so in love with these games that I decided to pay tribute
to the games themselves and their creators. I want to share
my love for everything Magnetic Scrolls with other, like-minded
people. As the games are not commercially available anymore
and have long gone out of print I want to keep the memory alive
and prevent them from being forgotten. I want to provide information
on Magnetic Scrolls and their stunning creations, take people
who are familiar with the games on a trip down memory lane and
want to give all those who are new to Magnetic Scrolls a chance
to find out what the company and their games were all about.
I think the work of Magnetic Scrolls is worth preserving. That
is the sole purpose of these pages.
Am
I or was I ever affiliated with Magnetic Scrolls or any of their
former distributors?
No. I am just a fan of these games and want to keep the memory
alive. Like I said before, these pages are a labour of love,
an unofficial, private tribute to Magnetic Scrolls and their
games and I never was affiliated with Magnetic Scrolls or any
of its former distributors in any way. With these pages I don't
want to cause any harm or damage whatsoever - I simply want
to prevent that Magnetic Scrolls and the games they created
are lost and forgotten, but if you are a copyright holder of
any Magnetic Scrolls material and think that anything on these
pages is a violation against copyrights, send
me an e-mail to this address and the content in question
will be removed as soon as possible.
Am
I or do I intend to make any money with these pages or is this
site commercial?
No. This site was designed for preservation and educational
purposes only. Any commercial use of any of the content on these
pages is definitely not intended.
What
is the copyright situation on Magnetic Scrolls?
The copyrights to the games have reverted back to the Magnetic
Scrolls Ltd (Ken Gordon and Anita Sinclair). Unfortunately the
games been unavailable for years. However, it is still illegal
to play Magnetic Scrolls games if you do not own an original
package, that is why you will not find any disk images of the
games on these pages, and neither will you find any material
here that will (at least to my knowledge) compromise the original
copy protection of the games. I do not intend to cause any damage
with these pages. To the best of my knowledge the Magnetic Scrolls
games are not generating any revenues anymore and there is no
relevant market for these games, but if the right holders requests
that I should take down material from this site I will gladly
comply. Should you be a right-holder and find any material on
here that violates any existing copyrights, send me an e-mail
and I will remove the content in question as soon as possible.
So,
what does this mean for you, as a visitor to the Magnetic Scrolls
Chronicles?
While everything on the Magnetic Scrolls Chronicles website
fulfills a strictly informational character, some (or most)
of the content on these pages must be considered copyrighted
by someone, so technically speaking most parts of this site
cannot be accessed legally. It is up to you to decide on how
to deal with this unfortunate situation.
