At the beginning of April 2016 Peter Verdi's Magnetic Scrolls Chronicles website went offline. So far all my attempts to contact Peter failed. His site carried some invaluable interviews with former Magnetic Scrolls people. To preserve the work I temporarily uploaded a dump of his site taken in summer of 2015. All you can see below is 100% Peter's work! Hopefully his site will reappear soon! Peter, if you read this, can you contact me?

This is the "Text" section of "Fish!". Here you will find articles, previews and reviews of "Fish!" I gathered over time.

Review (Atari ST) from "Power Play" magazine 11/1988
Article written by Boris Schneider and used with kind permission from the author; translated by Peter Verdi

Adventures under water: what starts as a vacation in a goldfish bowl ends as a hair-raising hunt for fishy terrorists.

Again you have prevented a scheme by the terrorist group "Seven Deadly Fins", therefore Colonel Playfair Panchax, your superior within the interdimensional secret agency, has granted you a special vacation. So you book two weeks of "Goldfish" - you are being transformed into a little goldfish and find yourself in an aquarium in a far away dimension. Now this is what you call total relaxation - swimming your rounds and doing absolutely nothing.

You have hardly gotten used to your new surroundings as one of those two-legged creatures from the outside of your goldfish bowl puts a plastic castle with a big SPLASH into your aquarium. You could have guessed it. Because as soon as you swim into the castle (for the sake of exploration) you spot Sir Playfair Panchax. Colonel Panchax has a new assignment for his best agent (which means good-bye vacation) - you must once again spoil the evil plans of the "Seven Deadly Fins".

First you have to visit three different dimensions, where you have to find one important object in each one of them. Every dimension is a complete mini-adventure. When all three objects are in the plastic castle you are being transported to the city of Hydropolis and the main quest begins. For your assignment you take over the body of well known scientist Dr. Roach in order to stop the Seven Deadly Fins from using their new super-weapon to steal all the water from Hydropolis - which would be extremely bad, because the inhabitants of Hydropolis are half-human, half-fish and they breathe .... you guessed it ... water.

"Fish!" is a classical adventure game revolving around puzzle-solving. Mainly the puzzles deal with gaining and manipulating objects, but you also have to talk to and work together with some people. Included with "Fish!" are 30 beautiful pictures done by various computer-artists.

Boris Schneider on "Fish!":
That's how I like my adventure games: lots of great puzzles that can be solved by thinking logically, not too difficult, a funny plot and beautiful pictures as a bonus. "Fish!" treads on the same path as "Guild of Thieves" - I'd say it is even a little more beginner-friendly.

We extensively discussed the graphics: Magnetic Scrolls have set themselves such a high standard with their pictures to their previous games that the expectations are very high. So we just discussed about whether the colour-composition is good or not. You can argue quite some time about taste, you know. All in all we have come to the conclusion that in comparison to the older games by Magnetic Scrolls we couldn't find any graphical improvements.

Anatol Locker on "Fish!":
Everything is just perfectly right with "Fish!": a crazy story, witty texts, beautiful pictures. The text and parser do have the same high standard as all the other adventures by Magnetic Scrolls. The program understands almost every sentence, even really complicated ones and this really adds to the fun of playing the game.

I really like the mini-adventures idea: you can solve them in any order and they prepare you nicely for the main quest of the adventure.
